Welcome to the Wiki for FreeNAS - a free and open source Network Attached Storage (NAS) operating system based on FreeBSD. A NAS is a specialized server that runs an operating system optimized for file storage and sharing. FreeNAS can be used to share data over multiple file sharing protocols, including CIFS for Windows users, NFS for Unix-like operating systems, and AFP for Mac OS X users. FreeNAS uses the OpenZFS file system to store, manage, and protect data.
